5 Questions to Ask Before Applying for a New Job
Everyone wants to earn a living. Here are 5 questions to ask before applying for a new job.
1- Does the role fit into my long-term career plans?
Applying for jobs should always be done with thought. Each position should serve as a stepping stone toward your desired career.
Look for jobs that would let you work in your target industry or introduce you to a profession you want to pursue in the future, even if you’re just looking for part-time work to help with the expenses.
2- Do I meet the requirements? Am I over- or under-qualified for the role?
Pay attention to job requirements. Pay special attention to the number of years that are required for the role. If they’re looking for someone with 3-5 years of experience and you just graduated with little to no relevant internship experience, this job is not a good fit.
The same goes if you have 10 or more years of relevant experience. The required years of experience indicate the level of responsibility the position holds and the pay range the company is willing to offer.
3- What do I know about the company culture?
You can possess all the qualifications for a role, but if you don’t mesh well with the organization’s culture, then you ultimately won’t be successful.
4- Is the commute reasonable?
How would you commute to work if you accepted this position? Would you have to move for the position, and if so, are you and your family prepared to do so? Would you have to drive or be able to use public transportation? This a very important aspect & going to add to your shift time.
5- Does my online presence support my career story?
Make sure your online presence is consistent with your resume so that when the interviewer meets you in person and reads about on paper matches what’s online.
